2009 Planning calendar of the club:
We have planned four tournaments in 2009:
1. Mixed mixer Sat., Feb 21
2. Men’s & Women’s doubles Sat., June 6
3. Men’s & Women’s doubles Sat., Aug 29
4. Mixed doubles Sat., Nov 7

“Drop-in” Tennis – Highly popular:
“Drop-in” tennis on Saturday morning at 10:00AM is highly popular as evidenced by the turn out. All four courts reserved for this event are always full and occasionally people waiting to play. We have reserved courts 5-8 until March 31, 2009 and plan is to go back to Wednesday afternoon at 5:00PM beginning in April. Adult league starts in April and most of the courts will be used for league plays on Saturdays.
Remember, ”Drop-in” tennis is primarily for Morgan Hill Tennis Club members, so I encourage all of you to become members of the club. Membership fee is lower if you become member prior to March 1, 2009. Please visit our web site MHTENNIS.com to find the membership form and join the club today.
USTA League teams:
As of this writing, there are three Mixed doubles teams, One Men’s super senior 65+ team, and five adult league teams registered to play out of Morgan Hill. Captain’s meeting on February 2nd at 6:30 at Centennial Recreation Center:
A captains meeting is scheduled for February 2nd at 6:30 at Centennial Recreation Center (located in Community Park) to go over the guidelines and requirements for all teams playing out of Morgan Hill. All the captains are invited to this meeting. In the mean time, all the players playing in the Mixed doubles league should have already joined the club by now and those who have not should do so immediately. All mixed league Captains should have paid their court fee by now as MHTC has already paid to City.
Courts/Equipments preservation and improvements:
Morgan Hill Tennis Club has been working with the City of Morgan Hill for courts improvements as well as preservation. City has recently installed shoe brushes at the entrance of the courts and MHTC is asking all the players to wipe off their shoes before entering the courts to prevent sand and gravel on the courts. MHTC is also negotiating with the City to install a barrier on courts 7 & 8 to prevent sand and gravel entering on these two courts. We are hoping that City will approve our proposed barrier so we can move forward with installation. We have also requested City to plant wind breaker trees around the courts to minimize the afternoon wind problem. With current budget problems, this project may take more time before City would approve this request.
Also, it has come to our attention that some one is using pliers to adjust the net height. Pliers damages the nut, so City has provided our club with a crank handle for adjusting the net height. So, please if any net needs adjustment, please let the club officers know and we will take care of the needed adjustment.
Last year we lost a few chairs from the storage room. Items in the storage rooms – chairs, score keepers, electric blower, broom etc are club’s property and all the Captains are reminded to secure all the items after the game.
