Rachael & Natalie Grand Prix Champs:
Oct. 23, 2010
It's Been A Very Good year for Morgan Hill Tennis !!!

After having multiple teams make USTA Sectionals this year, we now have our first Grand Prix Champions. MHTC's sister act, Natalie Schnetzler and Rachael Awbry won the 3.0 Grand Prix and become co-3.0 NTRP players of the year. They won the doubles championship 4-6, 6-0, 6-2. Rachael also competed in the singles finals, but had to retire early because of a work commitment
This is a outstanding achievment for these ladies. Please pass along your congratulation to them for their hard work and dedication to the game of tennis. The club also thanks them for bringing all this positive tennis press to the Morgan Hill tennis community
Also, Lets give a shout-out to Ken Marques, who has coached, trained and encourgaged Natalie and Rachael in their quest to achieve this great honor (Maybe you could talk him into giving you a lesson or two). Congratulations and continued success to all of you!

LADIES 3.0 DELIVER 1ST DISTRICT TITLE FOR MHTC:
Sept. 22, 2010
WE WON DISTRICTS!!!  There was so much excitement for our 3.0 Ladies Senior team on April 18, when we won the District Championship at Laguna Swim & Racquet Club in Elk Grove.  We were ecstatic! It all started by putting together a great team of ladies who are extremely enthusiastic, competitive, and highly motivated. We quickly formed some partnerships with good chemistry. I felt, early on, we had a strong team with excellent camaraderie among the players.  After playing twelve tough matches during the regular season, and winning two playoff matches in the very competitive Lower Peninsula league, we finished the season as league champions.  This meant we were the first MHTC team to compete at Districts.  The team consists of 15 players.  Nine of the players competed in Districts.  The teams were:  Carol Ferri/Cindy Johnson, Barb Fels/Maureen (Moe-Spidey) Webb, Lucy Olivares/Linda Schmidlin, Cathy Spaulding/Wendy Spohr and myself. The format was three four team flights with the second place team with the best Districts record advancing as a wildcard to Sectionals.  These teams represented the best of Women’s 3.0 Senior tennis in Northern California.  Anticipating the tough competition, we were a little apprehensive the opening day.  The first team we faced was Scott Valley from San Rafael.  Our team quickly dominated, sweeping Scott Valley 3-0.  The second day we met our most formidable opponents from Sunnyvale.  This was a close match, but we prevailed winning 2-1 with Cathy Spaulding and winning their match in a ten point tiebreaker. At this point, things were looking good for our team now in first place, but we still had to beat Reno to win Districts.  I wasn’t sure what to expect from Reno, but I had looked at their ratings, and almost the entire team had 3.5 year-end ratings, so we were expecting some strong opponents.   The Reno Captain mixed up their line-up, and had their strongest team in #2.  Our #1 team of Wendy and Barb won easily.  Cathy and I played in third doubles and we finished quickly, winning 6-1, 6-2. This gave us the Districts Champions Title for District 3, coming in 1st place out of the 9 teams competing.   Our team went to SECTIONALS!!!   We competed on Mother’s Day weekend in Walnut Creek at Club Sport Valley Vista.  We did great at Sectionals, only losing the win to go to Nationals by a ten point tie break. It was an honor to captain this dedicated, competitive, group of ladies.   Thanks to all 15 of my teammates for contributing to such a fantastic league season, and a special thanks to my dedicated Co-Captain, Marge Credelle.

MHTC Men's 3.5 at Sectionals:
Aug. 28, 2010
After Sectionals Day Two, the MHTC Men's 3.5 team is still alive. The team won their day 1 matches by a score of 3-2 as did the leading contender Fair Oaks West. MHTC played Fair Oaks on Day 2, but lost 4-1(all defeats decided in tie breakers), setting up the pivotal day 3 set of matches which will determine who goes to Nationals. The scenario is essentially the same as District, in which MHTC Pulled off what some thought was the impossible. Stand By!

Well it was a good run, but Nationals was not to be this year for MHTC. The Fair Oaks team won sectionals outright before our team even took the courts. Congratulations to Fair Oaks and wishing The MHTC men equal or better success next year.
